What does Sail Training mean and why is PEGASUS so good for it? Sail Training is about getting up, getting out and doing something amazing! It is about doing something different for a change! Sailing together means working together. It takes a team to make a boat really perform, on boats teams are called ‘Watches’. We watch out for each other, we help each other out, and we all work together to get jobs done.

Teamwork like this takes trust. Trust is knowing that nobody will let you down. Everyone is in the same boat after all! Everyone has their part to play in getting jobs done on deck and below deck too. Sail Training is about embracing responsibility, watching out for others, challenging yourself and having fun! Sailing brings out the best in everyone, allowing you to make discoveries about yourself and others around you. It is exhilarating, fun and thrilling! Sailing takes strength, skill, precision and lightning reactions!

You get out what you put in. Pegasus has the largest wardrobe of sails of any training vessel of this size, with 12 different sails to choose from there is enough to keep everyone busy and make sure that she never slows down, even when the wind drops. When it gets very windy, Pegasus also has the flexibility to keep everyone safe and comfortable.
Imagine
  • Crouching up at the bow, as every wave breaks over your head, while you haul down sails with your best mates, laughing every time you get water down the back of your neck!
  • Taking the helm, (that’s driving) while the skipper leaves you all alone, trusting you to get us safely home.
  • Watching the dolphins playing in the water under your feet, just inches away as you stand out on the bowsprit (that’s the bit that sticks out at the very front).
  • Climbing all the way to the very top of the mast and taking a photo of your team down below you on deck?
  • Getting up at 4am to sail by the stars and then watch sun rise, all cosy on deck in your fleece with your friends, singing songs, telling jokes and chatting with a mug of hot chocolate and brownies.
  • Riding in the inflatable boat at top speed, hanging on tight to stop you falling out as the skipper does donuts?
  • Cooking a three-course meal for the whole team, while the boat is crashing through waves?

With wildlife, cooking, navigation, socialising, chart work, helming, teamwork, swimming, sailing, barbequing, weather, history, singing, laughing...  the chances to learn are endless, everything is a teachable moment!
