Details
The group arrived in blazing sunshine at Batson creek and immediately went and spent every penny of their hard earned cash on sweets and drinks in Salcombe! the launch driver Lee was just about to leave without the missing crew members, and had actually left the quay when they appeared, breathless, and jumped onboard! we all headed off to Pegasus and the voyage began!
Kevin and Edson kept the group entertained all week with rousing renditions of Build me up buttercup...
With a bit of rough weather, the sea state was a bit dodgy for a while so we hid out in Brixham, and waited for the sun to come out. Killy became very interested in the weather forecast, because he loved the rough seas so much...so we did some work about the language used in the shipping forcast...
We then sailed all day and into the night to arrive at the Needles on the Isle of Wight and onto anchorage at about midnight. Everyone had a go at helming and navigating and Charlie and Billy took a special interest in the charts and log book.
We had a swim at Yarmouth even though nobody had proper swimming stuff with them! wet shorts and trousers all round, and headed off to Gosport to Royal Clarence Marina, who are always very welcoming to groups of young people. Showered and fresh once again, we were ready for anything! We waved goodbye at the ferry to Portsmouth and were really sad to see them go.
Thank you to The Churchill Gardens group for being wonderful, helpful and enthusiastic at all times even when the weather was rubbish! Cheers Kevin too! without your leadership the week could have been very different
